Classroom Management Strategies with Morning Meeting Games

Classroom Management Strategies

As dedicated educators, we understand that maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment is crucial for student success. Classroom management strategies play a pivotal role in achieving this goal. One highly effective approach to enhance classroom management is by incorporating behavior incentives into Morning Meeting Games or just to gamify things more in your classroom. By combining the power of structured activities with positive reinforcement, we can foster a harmonious and cooperative atmosphere while promoting social-emotional development. In this blog post, I will explore the benefits of using Morning Meeting Games as behavior incentives and discuss practical ways to implement them in our classrooms.

Morning Meeting Games

  1. The Power of Morning Meeting Games: Morning Meeting Games offer numerous benefits beyond mere entertainment. They provide a structured start to the day, encourage active participation, promote team building, and foster positive relationships among students. By integrating these games into our classroom routines, we can create a sense of excitement, engagement, and anticipation, setting the stage for effective learning throughout the day.
  2. Behavior Incentives: Motivating Students for Success: Behavior incentives are powerful tools that encourage positive behavior and motivate students to actively participate in the learning process. When implemented alongside Morning Meeting Games, these incentives can significantly impact student behavior, encouraging cooperation, respect, and a sense of responsibility. By rewarding desirable behavior, we create a culture of positivity, where students are motivated to consistently exhibit the desired conduct.
  3. Practical Implementation Strategies: Now that we understand the significance of Morning Meeting Games and behavior incentives, let’s explore some practical strategies for their successful implementation.

Behavior Bingo Game

One activity where you can do this is adding a class behavior bingo game as part of your classroom management strategies. Students will either use a Google Slide on the board and move over a piece once they earn it or pick a bingo piece of paper to put up on the whiteboard or have you cross a game piece. It is really up to you as the teacher with how you want to set it up for students. Students would earn a prize after getting so many pieces in a row or filling up the whole game board.

Google Slide Reward System

Another strategy you could use is another class reward system where you move over a piece on a Google Slide such as pizza toppings over to the pizza, balloons over to the balloon arch, or eggs into a basket.

When students as a class earn a reward such as being quiet in the hallway or transitioning within a certain amount of time, you or a student could move that pizza topping or egg over to the correct spot on the board. After you minimize it, it will save where you moved it when you have to bring it up again when they earn another reward. There is a printable version as well that you could laminate and place on your board.

True or False Activity

Finally, another fun activity to play during a brain break or during morning meeting time would be a paperless true or false activity on the smartboard. This could be made into a game by students going to one side of the room whether they thought it was true or false or sitting next to a  partner to discuss the answer.  There is a timer on this activity that is shown below that you could use to play the true or false game. You could have students write the answer on a whiteboard or sticky note, and students would earn points for an answer that they got correct. This game is unique because the timer is already on the side, the background pictures go with the question, and there is a video link that goes with each answer. The videos are mostly informational for students to learn more about the answer. There are a couple of funny videos as well just for fun! Another unique piece to these Google Slides is that they are editable! You can change the questions to better fit your students’ needs, the backgrounds, or the links.

Integrating games and behavior incentives presents an innovative and effective approach to classroom management. By harnessing the power of positive reinforcement and structured activities, we can create an environment that promotes student engagement, cooperation, and overall well-being. Let’s embrace Morning Meeting Games and behavior incentives to transform our classrooms into thriving hubs of learning and growth.
