Grant Writing Tips for Teachers

Are you looking for additional grant writing tips for teachers? I have first-hand seen academic achievement with my students by using resources funded by grants. Students can gain access to the valuable resources that they could not have before. This can include rich literary texts, guided lesson plans, whole-group lessons, technology, and much more.

Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card!

Write a DonorsChoose grant for Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Cards. I was able to receive a 500 dollar gift card that I have been using on lessons, activities, and guided math plans. It is so easy to just search on Teachers Pay Teachers for what I need and be able to buy it right away without feeling guilty or taking the extra time to contemplate the idea.

I have noticed superior academic achievement after purchasing guided math lesson plans with the gift card. I was not able to successfully implement guided math before I used the gift card. I was stuck on not being consistent with my groups because I was unsure of what lessons to do with groups of students. I now use our data to create our groups and create the groups based off of the standards the students are struggling with. After, I take the lessons based off of 2nd grade standards, and write students’ names on the lesson for that day or week. It is beneficial that the lessons are already created for me because it is one less step I need to do.

Centers

I observed a colleague of mine implementing socially distanced math centers. Her idea was fabulous! I took her idea and made it our own! Students’ names are all on my Math Center Google Slides. There are four centers.  I searched on YouTube for timers, and I copied the link of an 11 minute timer.  I went to insert  the video or link into each of the Google Slides. I meet with one group every 10 minutes, and the other students are working on Rocket Math, Moby Max, or their fact fluency.

I do something very similar for my reading centers as well. I have four centers and my two lowest groups meet with me every single day. I have reading centers for Monday & Wednesday, & for Tuesday and Thursday. My higher groups meet with me twice a week. When students are not meeting with me, they are on Moby Max, Silent Reading, or on Epic. On Fridays, I work on running records during reading centers. I am still able to give feedback to students after they get done with their running record. The timer will go off about every 12 minutes. I have another student who knows that he has to go up to the Smartboard and click next for the next center.

Additionally, I believe having shorter guided group times this year has led to an increased focus during guided time and more accountability on my part to meet with all groups.

I believe after 11 years, I have finally found what works best for me and my students to raise academic achievement. What do you do for guided groups? Do you do anything for writing groups? I meet with groups of students and we work on the lesson. Have you found a better way other than conferencing 1:1 with students?

Let me know if you write a grant for a TPT gift card and what you plan on using it for in your classroom.
