Quitting Teaching
Have you been pondering the idea of quitting teaching? Are you ready to turn in your teaching resignation letter? Are you having a hard time keeping kids on task? Do the kids seem more out of control this year than ever before? I have been in your shoes. There were years when my students would argue or the behaviors were so terrible that I did not want to come to school. I had to change my routine and think of a new approach.
Quitting Teaching Midyear
At one point this school year, there was a week or two where I only saw teachings quitting left and right on social media. When I would scroll to the next person on Tiktok or Instagram Reels, it was of a teacher turning in their teaching resignation letter. I never thought that I would see so many teachers quitting mid-year as I have this past school year. Teachers are done because of the extreme behaviors. Students need more from us than they ever did before. If you are wanting to stay in the profession and are leaning toward not quitting teaching, then keep reading.
Morning Meeting Share Ideas
I know you have heard of Morning Meeting, but sometimes we do not do it with fidelity, or we are lacking ideas on how to make it work for students. There are many different types of share ideas for students to utilize during Morning Meeting. Ask students thought-provoking questions to get to know each other on a personal level while building those strong relationships. Students will learn more about each other and that will build a strong community in your classroom. You can ask a question of the day or think of questions on your own. Every student should answer and it should only take about five minutes. You could also do a Meme of The Day or have each student compliment one other student.
Ideas for Morning Meeting
Other ideas for Morning Meeting include correcting a spelling word, creating inferences with a picture or a video, practicing a reading or math skill, social skills, or problem-solving. You can have students correct a spelling word from your spelling list or another word that your students misspell often. This can be done by writing a sentence with the misspelled word or using pre-made slides from TeachersPayTeachers. Practice a reading and math skill each morning that your students struggle with or that is connected to the standardized assessments. This really raised my test scores! Also, why not problem-solve with your students about what may have happened the day before or the drama that they are struggling with? This can be done quickly during your morning routine and can help alleviate much stress from your students and your shoulders!
